Strengthened by Grace Part 1

When it comes to knowing God, sometimes we just let ourselves get in the way.  We rely on our own morality, religious works or good deeds only to fall short and beat ourselves up for disappointing the Lord.  We run from God altogether only to face the painful reality that true life can only be found in him, but how can sinners ever draw near to the Almighty?

The answer is grace.   It is God’s extravagant, limitless, unconditional, constantly pursuing, never giving up, always-and-forever one-way love that gives hope to those in desperate need of God.  This grace is available to believers through Jesus Christ no matter what they’ve been through.

This is the first part of a two part sermon series called “Strengthened by Grace” from the Living Hope Church-Maryville Campus.  Check out what people are saying about this series on Twitter and Facebook by using the hashtag #LHCGrace.

28 years ago, I asked the Lord why I wasn’t satisfied with my spirituality in spite of the theology, prophecy interpretations, scriptures, Bible history, denominational differences, & other things I knew. He said “Because you don’t know me”.
Soon after that, I started treating the commandments of Christ (who was God’s Word incarnate) as the person I wanted living in my heart. Practicing God’s Word, I began to know Him better & better.
I began to understand some of His testimonies better as I learned the value of His commandments. A few nights ago, I woke with a sense that the Lord was, somehow, comforted (like the comfort you feel when you return home from a long business trip) that I had sought to know Him as a Friend, accepting the conditioning of Christ’s discipline with a great expectation of good results.
Is that what it means to labor that you may enter into His rest?
    Oh, the mystery!
